Onshore Rig Manager


Role is to evaluate whether the current set procedures for performing rig operations is consistent with how these tasks are actually being performed in practice. The aim will be to amend and update the procedures where necessary to ensure that these represent       "best  practice" standard operating models for all tasks, apply a safety critica analysis model to the current procedures, and then to ensure that all crews are working consistently to these set procedures."

Key responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Review current task procedures.
  • On-site monitoring and evaluation of task (all 4 crews) against current task procedure.
  • Lead procedural reviews and demonstrate the standards required for procedures / risk assessments, Tool Box Talks and After Action Reviews.
  • Implement a safety critical task analysis process during procedural reviews and coach crews in how to conduct same.
  • Ensure sufficient detail is included in documentation to ensure compliance with LOLER.
  • Update procedure incorporating best practice operating to reflect exact task steps being taken from start through to completion.
  • Roll out new procedure and monitor compliance ensuring consistent working practices are being demonstrated (all 4 crews) against new procedure.
  • In conjuction with Performance Toolpusher, ensure After Action Reviews are held after each job and lessons and improvements are fed back into Risk Assessments / Procedures / Written Work Instructions as appropriate to ensure a healthy active learning environment is created and the process is embedded into drill crews.


  • Familiarise themselves with the Company Safety Policy and to take all reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of themselves and persons likely to be affected by their acts or omissions, as required under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Ensure that the Company Safety Policy is fully implemented and adhered to.
  • Take immediate action to contain, eliminate or guard against actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment that come to their attention in the course of their work.
  • Coach drill crews in Hazard Identification and the criticality of ensuring dynamic risk assessment is carried out.
  • Create an effective learning environment, leading to safer and more efficient operations


  • Ensure compliance to all relevant Company management systems and where applicable client procedures.

  • Passenger Shoulder Measurement
  •  Additional
  • Experience at Driller / Toolpusher level.
  • The personal drive to implement change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills, word / excel / document control.
  • Authority

According to Company financial / HR authorization matrix and formal delegation given from Immediate Manager.
